About us & our area: |
Piazza Deli & Pizzeria is
in Defiance, Missouri (located in St. Charles County) and
has been in business for over 16+ years serving the local
community.
This area is known as "Missouri's Rhineland" because of the
number of Germans who flocked to this part of the state in the
mid 1800s. This area was first settled in 1836 on the bluffs
overlooking the river and it soon became the center of local
German cultural. The Germans settlers established vineyards, and
many wineries still thrive today.
As riders and hikers approach the southern county from the east,
more bluffs appear, this time composed of dolomite and
sandstone. The Klondike Quarry area exhibits a particularly fine
exposure of St. Peter sandstone. This white quartz sandstone was
ground up at this site for use in manufacturing glass.
Colonel Daniel Boone called the area home and also died here in
1820. The Boone home, nearly 200 years old, is large even by
today's standards. It rises four stories -- counting a kitchen
and dining room in what might be considered a basement -- with
limestone walls, from the local quarry, are 2 1/2 feet thick.
The home has seven fireplaces and a ballroom on the top floor.
Whether you visit for exercise on the Katy Trail, visit the
wineries, tour the historic homes or better yet move into the
community - be sure to stop by to eat the best food around. |
